Kaelin's Fine-Tuning Toolkit: NG, Lips and Vowel Centering

A rapid-fire session of the exercises Dean Kaelin actually reaches for - NG, E-AH, the whoop slide - plus the lip trick he calls the anti-ventriloquist voice.

Dean Kaelin closes out a conference day by turning other presenters' ideas into things you can use on Monday. You'll get his pentatonic routine for building soulfulness and licks, a video breakdown of singer Fernando Zimmermann - muted first, so you watch only for tension - and a clear explanation of vocal fry as releasing pressure, not adding it. Then the exercises: E-AH for centering the vowel, the NG progression through NING-A into open sounds, whoop slides for heavy male voices, and W and Y consonants to encourage airflow. He finishes with the anti-ventriloquist voice: disconnecting lip shape from internal tone so singers can be expressive without wrecking their sound.
